What's "Häger design" and what the *bleep* are those European dots?

(Click here for the short version.)

Let's begin where one should begin. At the beginning. I've always sewn (as in "now and then since I was a teenager", not as in "Sewing-wiz-kid, The Mozart of Fabrics"), mostly altering thrifted garments or sewing simple stuff for my home. Nothing complicated at all, projects requiring more common sense than mad sewing skillz.

In October-ish 2013 I started planning a few gifts I wanted to make for my best friend's first born, expected in December. I started surfing for inspiration and ideas, as I really wanted to make something perfect for her little beast-to-be. Doing this, I discovered Pinterest. Seriously, If you have no clue about what Pinterest is, Visit. Right after you've finished here.

I instantly got addicted of course, and collected a huge number of sewing tutorials, free patterns, and inspirational pictures. After that, I sewed every single day, squeezing the last spare minutes from every day. This continued several months, well into spring 2014. Naturally; I didn't sew toddler-stuff all that time. He got his share! I started making all kinds of simple projects, gradually making them more advanced as I developed. When it didn't longer make sense to keep stuff at home or give away to friends and family, I started selling them (dirt-cheap at first) to my kind hearted colleagues at work.

Let me show you where I was, and where I am today.

November 2013

June 2014

I'm not trying to honk my own horn in any way here. I still have so much to learn!! I can't wait until the day I frown at the things I made this summer! But I've sure come a long way since all those baskets, and this journey, learning as I go, is one of the best things I've ever experienced. Sewing and creating, MAKING BEAUTIFUL AND USEFUL STUFF out of imagination and fabric, is increadibly rewarding to me. Finding this new .. well... hobby I suppose, that I had no idea hid inside me, makes me feel rich, and enriched!

This really is the beginning of Häger design. Thanks to my co-workers, my friends, family and most of all my boyfriend, I started thinking about selling my stuff on Etsy. I opened up two shops around Easter 2014. We'll see what happens now, if anything. I do know that I want to try to help others finding their sewing bug, and teach what I can to those who want to learn it.

I'd love it if you'd take a look at my shops, and tell me what you think!

Here you'll find my handbags & purses, along with toiletry- and makeup bags and my new favorite: upcycled dopp kits!

Here I have gathered my plush monsters, owls, cell phone accessories, crafting tools and some house wares. A gift shop, really :)

What about that scrawny bird?

Häger is the Swedish word for heron, the bird you see in my logo. You pronounce ä kind of like ai in "air"

Short version:

I got addicted to sewing in the Fall of 2013, and sewed so much I started selling to my friends. At first I knew hardly anything, now I know a bit more. Spring 2014 I got some labels and started two Etsy shops. And this site. I hope you'll enjoy them!
